Shoulder Bag Galore: Prada Re-Edition 2005 Nylon Review + Dupes from Peta and Jain

The Prada Re-Edition 2005 Nylon Bag has become extremely popular recently – you can’t see a fashion post on Instagram or Pinterest without it draped over a blogger’s shoulder. Shoulder bags, in general, have proliferated in popularity, but this one seems to be the “it” bag.

The main reason for the demand in this bag is the versatility. It can be dressed up or dressed down. It can be worn as a crossbody bag or a shoulder bag. It gives off girly but also edgy vibes. You name it, you got it.

The woven shoulder strap with the Prada name etched onto it – iconic when the bag is draped across the body. It can be removed and worn as a belt (something that I didn’t hear about until today). Alternatively, you can use the shorter chain strap on the shoulder. Also, the little removable nylon pouch can hold AirPods, or even some loose change. The nylon fabric is malleable and easy to clean. It is the perfect size to comfortably keep your phone and wallet, with room to spare. The zipper is easily functional. It comes in 10 colours on the Prada website. You can keep it classic with Black, or opt for more wild colours like Astral Blue, Begonia Pink, or Lemon Yellow.

This product comes at $1,520 CAD.

For those with a smaller disposable income, the Peta and Jain Paloma Bag comes at a close second to with similar versatility and aesthetics.

Although this bag doesn’t come with the iconic Prada pouch, it does give the versatility option to use the long woven crossbody strap or the chain shoulder strap. The straps are well-constructed. The space inside the bag is similar, as it is also large enough to keep your wallet and phone + extras. It also comes in around 10 colours – with different colours of hardware to consider as well! The nylon is also malleable and easy to clean. The only downfalls are that it doesn’t carry the Prada branding – as well as, the zipper can be slightly dodgy sometimes.

The Peta and Jain website lists the item at $69.96 AUD. I bought it off the Princess Polly website at $67 CAD (it’s also super easy to find discount codes on PrincessPolly, so don’t be afraid to use those).

If you don’t particularly enjoy the longer strap, you can also opt for the Prada Re-Edition 2000 Nylon Mini Bag. This one features a woven handle rather than the chain handle – at a lower price of $895 CAD. Respectively, Peta and Jain have a number of shoulder bags without the longer crossbody strap like the Tal Mini Shoulder Bag, or the Reign Shoulder Bag.

My friends and I each own either the Prada Re-Edition 2005 Nylon Bag, the Peta and Jain Paloma Bag, as well as one of the shorter strap Peta and Jain dupes mentioned, so keep your eyes peeled on future styling posts regarding those. In one of my previous fashion posts, The Leather Pant of the Season: Aritzia Wilfred Melina Pant… and More, I also included outfits with the Peta and Jain Paloma bag, so check that one out!

What are your thoughts on shoulder bags? Wear or tear? How do you want to see my friends and I style them?
